Description: Laurent Brondel 00: Absolutely stunning Macassar Ebony back and sides on this custom guitar by Laurent. The top is a wonderful Carpathian spruce. Finished in an oil varnish, the tone is VERY Present, and this finish gives the guitar a great golden hue. Honduran mahogany neck with scarf joint peghead and stacked
heel, essentially a 5-piece neck. Genuine tortoise celluloid (the real old timey stuff) pickguard. The Macassar Ebony was bought from a local lumberyard years ago and re-sawn by Laurent. Typically, He saw a guitar in an otherwise ugly board nobody noticed. All the Macassar on the guitar came from this same board. The 4-piece back is reinforced inside by 2 cross-grain strips of the same material running on each side of the centre strip. They're not really needed, just an added security and they look cool. The back braces and centre strip are red spruce with .040" ziricote laminations on top for added rigidity (it makes a difference and he does it on all his guitars except the single 0).
Also the sides are laminated by the same material, but running in the opposite direction. The fretboard is Ebony, outlined in a fine, red purfling line. The bridge, bindings, headplate, backplate & butt wedge are figured Ziricote. The Bridge pins are Buffalo horn with pearl dots. This guitar has neat Gold Hipshot open-gear tuning machines with black buttons. Multiple rings form the rosette, a couple being red, to tie in nicely with the fretboard. This guitar is solid in its tone, and the trebles are especially strong and pleasing.
