Used, 2009 Woolson Fan Fret Guitar Jumbo Parlor with double top. African Blackwood back & sides. Double top of Cedar & Lutz Spruce. A double top is much stiffer AND lighter than a solid top. This means it is easier to drive, hence it is more responsive, producing greater volume with a lighter touch. Soft cutaway. Side sound port. More about this new model in Marc's own words: The concept for this guitar model was born out of an admiration for the Mission styled furniture also known as the "Arts & Crafts movement" of the early 1900's. My wife Gayle and I have always loved the simple elegance of this 1/4 sawn white oak furniture and for several years I have been contemplating a guitar inspired by this style. My concept was of an instrument from the same era, i.e. 1900-1920. With this in mind my Mission Model has figured 1/4-sawn White Oak back and sides, shaded a beautiful golden amber. The top is Adirondack, a likely choice for the time. In keeping with the simplicity theme there are no purflings on the back & sides and I've also eliminated the back head veneer as a tribute to the guitars of that era. The fingerboard, pyramid bridge, head veneer and bindings on this particular guitar are Brazilian Rosewood (an optional extra) and the tuners are Waverly. . . . White Oak is a moderately dense, stable hardwood with a tone best described as a cross between Mahogany, Maple and Indian Rosewood. This combination makes it very versatile and well suited to a wide range of playing styles. |
